These days mark the twelfth anniversary of the 2014 Israeli occupation military aggression on the Gaza Strip. Throughout the 51-day offensive, Palestinian resistance factions, led by the Al-Qassam Brigades, defended the Palestinian people against the fascist forces. The assault resulted in severe devastation across Gaza: more than 1,742 Palestinians lost their lives, thousands more were injured, and widespread destruction was inflicted upon infrastructure, public facilities, and homes. Over 17,000 homes were completely destroyed and numerous hospitals, schools, and factories were leveled or severely damaged, leaving approximately 100,000 Palestinians displaced.

​Despite the scale of the offensive and widespread international inaction regarding these atrocities, the Palestinian resistance actively worked to defend the population and deter further attacks on defenseless civilians.

​Enhancements in Palestinian Resistance and Defense

​The response of the resistance factions during the onslaught marked a strategic shift in the confrontation. The resistance targeted military outposts, launched coordinated operations by land and sea, and carried out tactical maneuvers behind the lines of advancement to strike specific military targets.

​Furthermore, the resistance launched locally manufactured missiles toward military sites and surrounding settlements. In a move to demonstrate the limitations of the Iron Dome missile defense system, the resistance frequently announced the specific timing of its intended strikes in advance. During this aggression, the Al-Qassam Brigades also introduced its homemade, multi-functional UAV drones into service for the first time. Simultaneously, it conducted several notable operations that disrupted operational plans, including raids on the "Zikim" and "Abu Mutaibq" military sites.

​The "Nahal Oz" Operation

​On July 20, 2014, heavy airstrikes and artillery bombardment targeted the Shuja'iyya neighborhood in eastern Gaza, resulting in the martyrdom of up to 74 Palestinians—including 17 children and 14 women—while injuring hundreds and displacing thousands.

​Eight days later, in direct response to the devastation in Shuja'iyya, Palestinian fighters executed a close-range assault on a fortified military tower within the "Nahal Oz" military outpost. Video footage released by the Al-Qassam Brigades documented the operation, which shook the command structure of the advancing forces and countered the momentum of their offensive.

​Capture of Zionist Israeli Soldiers

​During the efforts to repel incursions into the coastal enclave, the resistance succeeded in capturing dual personnel:

​July 20, 2014: Abu Obaida, the late spokesperson for the Al-Qassam Brigades, announced the capture of Zionist soldier Oron Shaul from an armored personnel carrier during heavy fighting in eastern Gaza.

​August 1, 2014: Zionist soldier Hadar Goldin went missing during a fierce exchange of fire near Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, an operation for which the Brigades subsequently claimed responsibility.

​Years have passed since the 2014 offensive, and the hardships confronting the Gaza Strip persist. Nevertheless, the Palestinian resistance remains committed to defending its people with all available means, operating under the historical principle that populations defending their rights ultimately endure, regardless of the imbalance in conventional military power.
