Al-Qassam Brigades Mourns Senior Qassam Leader Assassinated in Gaza

With pride and unwavering faith in Allah's imminent victory, the Ezzeddin Al-Qassam Brigades mourns the great martyred commander

Nael Atyya Abu Obeid "Abu Atyya"

Member of the General Military Council of the al-Qassam Brigades and Commander of the Rafah Brigade, who was martyred on Tuesday evening, September 15, 2026, in a cowardly assassination attack.

Abu Atyya was martyred after decades of struggle and sacrifice since he joined the Brigades in 1993 and took part in many major operations, most notably the famous tunnel operations: the Hardon Tower bombing, Volcanoes of Rage, and the Mahfouza operation.

In 2002, he led the Yebna Battalion and confronted the Israeli invasions of its refugee camp. He rose through the ranks in the Rafah Brigade — from head of military specialties in 2014 to head of the Operations Department in 2016.

He was also one of the leaders of Al-Aqsa Flood Battle, helping plan and oversee the operation within the Rafah Brigade sector, ending his distinguished path of resistance as Commander of the Rafah Brigade, succeeding the martyred commander Mohammed Shabana.

After years of resistance, being pursued, and achievements, it was time for his exhausted body to finally rest. He attained the honor of martyrdom every believer longs for, and his blood now mixes with the blood of his people in the battle to liberate ourselves from the occupation — a battle whose final chapters our martyrs have written with their blood.

We pledge not to betray the blood of the martyrs. We will continue on their path, follow their footsteps, and complete what they started until Allah fulfills His promise to liberate our land and defeat our enemy.

Indeed, it is a jihad... Unto victory or martyrdom.
