68-year-old female detainee passes away in Israeli occupation jail

A female Palestinian detainee has passed away while incarcerated in Israeli occupation jails for allegedly trying to carry out a stabbing operation near Al-Ibrahimi Mosque.
The Asra Media Office stated this morning that the 68-year-old female detainee, Saadia Matar, from the town of Ithna, west of Al-Khalil, passed away while inside the Israeli occupation jail of Al-Damon.
Israeli occupation forces detained Matar, a mother of four sons and four daughters, on December 18, 2021, after severely beating her, near the Ibrahimi Mosque in the old city of Al-Khalil, in the south of the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli occupation authorities accused her of carrying out a stabbing operation in the Ibrahimi Mosque, injuring a colonial settler. Matar had also been detained during the First Intifada in 1987.
Hazem Qassem, the spokesman for Hamas, said that Matar's martyrdom was due to the "atrocious assault by Israeli occupation forces during her arrest several months ago."
Qassem added, "We hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for her death and for the increasing crimes against sick Palestinian detainees in its prisons."
