Al_Qassam Website _In the besieged city of Rafah, at the southern part of the Gaza Strip, Palestinian resistance fighters from Hamas continue to display remarkable bravery and discipline despite being trapped in tunnel networks and facing a fierce Israeli campaign of assassination and summary execution in a bltant disregard of the current ceasefire agreement brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.
Surrounded and cut off, dozens of Hamas fighters remain in underground positions in the completely devastated city of Rafah refusing to surrender and give up their weapons. The genocidal Israeli military has launched multiple raids and airstrikes on these positions, claiming to eliminate resistance cells despite efforts by the mediators to resolve this issue.
Despite the mounting pressure, Hamas has maintained its formal commitment to the ceasefire, avoiding retaliation in a bid to preserve the fragile humanitarian conditions in the besieged coastal enclave. The trapped fighters in, while remaining in their defensive positions, are ready to evacuate peacefully if a secure and guaranteed safe passage is provided. However, in the absence of such guarantees and under continued aggression, they retain the right to defend themselves against any attack by the occupation forces.
The continued Israeli aggression, especially the targeting of fighters who maintained their combat positions, encircled yet unwavering, risks a full collapse of the agreement.
Local accounts tell of extraordinary acts of heroism by the trapped fighters who chose to remain in their positions, even when faced with certain death.
“These young men did not flee. They stood their ground with courage and faith,” said a resident of Rafah whose relative was martyred in the tunnels. “Their goal was never survival, but dignity and resistance.”
Executing extrajudicial killing and breaching international law, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF), while insisting they are acting in self-defense, have continued raids and bombings in Rafah, despite no active engagement from Hamas during the truce.
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) affirmed that the brutal crime committed by the occupation through the pursuit, elimination, and arrest of the besieged fighters in the tunnels of Rafah city "constitutes a flagrant violation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and a compelling evidence of the ongoing attempts to undermine this agreement".
Hamas has held the occupation fully responsible for the lives of its fighters and called on the mediators to take urgent action to pressure the occupation to allow "our sons to return to their homes", as they represent a unique model of sacrifice, heroism, and steadfastness, as well as a symbol of the dignity and freedom of the Palestinian people.
As the world watches, Rafah has become a symbol of steadfastness and resistance, where fighters, even in isolation, embody the Palestinian refusal to submit under occupation.
