Al-Qassam Website – Ten Palestinian detainees, some under illegal administrative detention, languishing in Israeli occupation jails have been on an open-ended hunger strike in a quest for their rights.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Society (PPS) reported that the former political detainee and Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement leader, Maher al-Akhras, has gone on a hunger strike in protest at his administrative detention without charge or trial.
Notably, in 2020, al-Akhras, 52, went on a hunger strike for 103 days before the Israeli occupation authorities agreed to end his arbitrary detention.
Nine other detainees have also been on a hunger strike against their illegal incarceration.
42-year-old Palestinian detainee Hatem al-Qawasmeh has begun an indefinite hunger strike demanding his transfer to another jail where his brother is being held.
